The idea of drinking tea meditation is really bringing mindfulness into our everyday lives. Mindfulness is more than sitting on our cushion, it’s being aware and present to every activity that we do from the time we get up in the morning until we go to sleep at night.
Can I drink my tea with awareness? Can I put away the laundry mindfully? Can I load the dishwasher without judgment? What sensations to I feel as I do my tasks like brushing my teeth or showering? Even cooking.
Can I notice what arises in my mind about these tasks? Am I being critical in mind because I don’t want to check email, or work, or run the vacuum?
These are all fodder for our mindfulness practice.
In class last night, I emphasized slowing down and being with each breath, each task, each sense, one at a time. How different our lives can be!
