In relation to a body scan for mindfulness, here the focus is put one observing whatever arises in the moment, without reacting to it. This is different than a yoga body scan which is for relaxation. With a mindful body scan, acceptance is key, not relaxation.
The body scan is used as a tool for our attention skills. While at the same time being introduced to the important skill of acceptance. Although the body scan is traditionally done lying down, you can do a quick body scan while sitting upright.
Here is a short body scan that I did for the Tuesday Meditation Break Livestream.
